Growing up, the only sweet potatoes I was ever exposed to were canned yams and sweet potato casserole. I hated both. So, when we decided to start eating healthier, I was reluctant to add sweet potatoes into the mix. We had given them to my daughter as a finger food (baked and cut up) but, had yet to make them into something we could all enjoy. Many of the recipes I came across were covered in sugar, butter and marshmallows and were a far cry from fitting into the healthier lifestyle we were aiming for. When I came across a recipe for baked sweet potato fries, I was sold! Finally a recipe with no added sugar! Plus, I love fries! Can you ever go wrong with fries? I don’t think so.
The spice combination on these fries is admittedly pretty out there. I was skeptical when I saw the combo but, the recipe had great reviews so, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try. I am so glad I did. Garlic, cinnamon, and salt turns out to be a genius mix! The original recipe didn’t give measurements for the spices and it took a few attempts before I found the right ratios (too much cinnamon is bad!) but, this is now my families favorite way to eat a sweet potato! I also replaced the oil in the original recipe with egg whites so that their fat free (a tip I learned from ZoomYummy) . Super healthy and super delicious!

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cover two baking sheets with aluminum foil and spray lightly with olive oil spray then, set aside. In a large bowl, whisk together egg white, garlic powder, cinnamon, and salt and set aside. Cut potatoes into even fries (directions to follow). Add fries to the bowl with the egg white mixture and toss until well coated. Place fries on baking sheet with a little space between each fry. Be careful not to over lap fries or they won’t get crispy. Once all fries are on your baking sheets, place on the center rack of your oven and bake for 22 minutes. Remove fries from oven and flip each fry over. Once flipped, spray tops lightly with olive oil spray and place back in oven. Bake for an additional 22 minutes. Remove from oven and enjoy!

Sweet potato fries are the best! I like the idea of using egg white instead of oil to coat the fries!
I was surprised when I learned that it works. It is definitely a great replacement!
WOW! These look amazing! I will have to try this combination. I’ve made mashed yams with garlic powder and cinnamon and served it at Thanks Giving and then again at Christmas, but I never thought of this for baked yams. Clever!
Its definitely a great combination!
I love baked sweet potato fries… Thanks for sharing your recipe… I’ll be giving a go.
Thanks! Let me know how you like it!
Baked Sweet potato fries looks delicious. Will it retains the crispiness, I read somewhere it not.
They are not super crispy. They are more firm then when I have tried them with oil though. I personally enjoy the softness but, if you like your fries really crispy, you may have to skip the baked versions and just have your fries actually fried
This is a great recipe and I love the step by step instructions. The grocery sells frozen sweet potato fries for about $5 a bag and it’s not a big bag either. I’ll have to give these a try. Thanks for sharing!
I’ve never bought the store version but, I can imagine they are over priced for what you get! Homemade probably taste better anyways. It usually does!
These look delicious. I absolutely love sweet potatoes and I eat them roasted with nothing on them all the time. This recipe is a keeper.
I love sweet potatoes too! If you enjoy plain roasted potatoes, I’m sure you’d love this version as well! Their a hit with everyone I’ve served them to.
Sweet potato fries are the best! I love that you put cinnamon on them!
